This is about the benefits and negative aspects of posting information across a wide range of social media platforms.
Benefits - The most obvious benefits to me are the ability to reach the widest range of people. Twitter is used by some people but not all, likewise Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, Blogger, Google+, and others. I'm sure even the long-forgotten MySpace still has a handful of devotees.
Negatives - It seems to me the greatest drawback to posting across multiple platforms is the inevitable repetition of information. If someone 'follows' your organization on multiple platforms, there is a very good chance they will be recieving the same information multiple times unless the use of each platform is carefully planned and monitored.
I think use of social media by libraries is smart and necessary, but if used improperly, it would quickly try the patience of it's followers.
